Beginnings (intro)

Odin Teatret was founded in Oslo, Norway, in 1964. Previously, its director and founder, Eugenio Barba, had spent four years in Poland, three of which with Jerzy Grotowski at his “Theatre of 13 Rows” in Opole, later renamed Teatr-Laboratorium. In  1964, Barba returned from Poland to Oslo - where he had emigrated from Italy in 1954 - and created Odin Teatret together with four young aspiring actors, all rejected by the Norwegian national theatre school.
